Regalia Information

Bachelor's Degree

• A bachelor's gown has plain long sleeves and a large oval cuff. The Buffalo State bachelor's gown is black with orange cuffs and includes a white bachelor's sash imprinted with the Buffalo State seal.
• The Buffalo State tassel is black and orange.

Master's Degree

• A master's gown has long pointed sleeves with a square base and arc cuff. The Buffalo State master's gown is black with orange arc trim

Purchase Options and Deadlines

All prices include sales tax. Shipping costs will be added to online orders.

Option 1: Order online for home delivery at collegegrad.herffjones.com

Search tip: On the Herff Jones website, search specifically Buffalo State.

Website online orders will be available on Monday, March 30, 2026 (Shipping Charges of $14.90) until Friday, April 21.

Expedited shipping Saturday, April 22 (Shipping Charges of $21.30) until Saturday, May 2.

The website will be down (no orders taken) as of Sunday, May 3.

NOTE: Online orders will be shipped the week before commencement. Online orders will arrive before May 15th.

• Shipping charges are $14.90 until Friday, April 11
• Shipping charges are $21.30 beginning April 12

For Out-of-Town Graduates Only: Information Regarding Picking up Regalia and Your Electronic Tickets 

• Out-of-town graduates only (i.e., currently living outside the Western New York region) may email commence@buffalostate.edu for assistance with obtaining your regalia and information regarding your electronic tickets (for you and your guests).

 

Option 2: Purchase In-Person in the Bookstore

• April 9 - May 15 during regular store hours.
• Bookstore hours: Monday-Thursday: 8:30 a.m.‒4:00 p.m., Friday: 8:30 a.m.‒3:00 p.m., Saturday‒Sunday: Closed.
  • In preparation for Commencement 2026, the bookstore will be open until 6pm on the following dates:
    • Monday, April 13
    • Tuesday, April 21
    • Wednesday, April 29
    • Thursday, May 7
    • Monday, May 11
• No shipping charges. Purchase (cash, credit, Barnes & Noble gift card) and carry.
• Graduation accessories and gifts also available for purchase.  The bookstore no longer sells graduation announcements.

Bachelor's degree candidates who academically qualify to purchase and wear the gold honors cord at Commencement and who applied for their degree with the Registrar's Office by the appropriate deadline will receive congratulatory letters from Amitra Wall, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs  notifying them of their eligibility. Please note Commencement and Honors Convocation are two distinct and separate ceremonial events. Students will receive the appropriate communications from the respective offices with instructions for each ceremony.

Step 1

Select the correct garb for the degree and/or certificate you are earning.

Graduate Certificate Only

• Bachelor's gown (purchase the Buffalo State bachelor's student package, or wear a plain black bachelor's gown-plain long sleeves/square cuff).
• Black mortar board with tassel.
• Purchase the graduate certificate orange/white braided cord.

Graduate Certificate Concurrent with Master's Degree

• Buffalo State master's cap and gown package.
• Master's hood in appropriate color.
• Graduate Certificate orange/white braided cord.

Master’s Degree Only

• Buffalo State master's cap and gown package.
• Master's hood in appropriate color.

Master's Degree with C.A.S., or C.A.S. Only

• Buffalo State master's cap and gown package.
• Master's hood in appropriate color.
• Certificate of Advanced Study Stole.
