Jessa M. Matteson, a Dean’s List student, completed two intensive independent studies in 2018: one on children’s literature before 1850 and the other on poetic works. She also was awarded an Undergraduate Summer Research Fellowship in 2018 to study Native American literature. She co-directed Light of Day, a play about sexual assault and social and mental impacts within survivors and has been a reader in the English Department’s Drop Hammer Poetry Reading event. She also served as editor and treasurer of the department’s Portrait literary arts magazine and participated as both an attorney and witness on the college’s Mock Trial team. Off campus, she has led creative writing workshops and tutored at local public and charter schools.
